5.1. Methodological overview

The learning process of this course is based on theory and practice sessions; the reading, study and discussion of the recommended bibliography; individual and group work in presentations and discussions in class; individual or group tutorials; and autonomous learning and study of the course contents.

5.2. Learning tasks

The course includes the following learning tasks: 

  • Theory and practice sessions (30 hours): Presentation of topics, bibliographical orientation and proposal of questions and homework by the teacher, solving of questions and class discussion.
  • Autonomous work (45 hours):  Personal work of the students, individually and in groups, for solving questions, preparation of papers, reading reviews, and exam preparation.
  • Individual or group tutorials (included in autonomous work of students).
  • Exams.

5.3. Syllabus

The course will address the following topics:

Topic 1. The environmental problems.

Topic 2. The economy and the environment.

Topic 3. The economics of pollution.

Topic 4. The economic value of environmental services.

Topic 5. The methods for valuing environmental benefits and costs.

Topic 6. Discounting the future.

Topic 7. The non-renewable natural resources.

Topic 8. The renewable natural resources.
